Attendance

Regular school attendance is essential to student learning, wellbeing, and future success. Students who attend regularly are more likely to achieve academically and feel connected to their school community.

Reporting Absences and Lateness

If your child is absent from school, it is important that you notify the school on the same day. The easiest and most efficient way to do this is via the Compass Parent Portal or App, where you can provide explanations for full-day absences, partial absences (such as arriving late or leaving early), and planned absences such as medical appointments or cultural events. If you are unable to access Compass, you may also contact the school by phone or send a written note.

Compass preferred: See instructions below

Phone: 9262 0556 – if sent to voice mail please clearly list student name and year.

Email: kentstreet.shs.studentservicessupport@education.wa.edu.au

Students who arrive after 8:40 am are required to sign in at Student Services, provide a valid explanation for their lateness, and collect a late slip to present to their teacher.

Leaving School During the Day

If your child needs to leave school during the day, a parent or carer must notify the school in advance through Compass or by phone. Students must report to Student Services to sign out and collect a leave pass before departing the school grounds. Upon returning, they are expected to sign back in.

Students should not contact parents directly via mobile phone to arrange early departure.

Daily Expectations and School Hours

In accordance with Section 23 of the School Education Act 1999, all students of compulsory age (Pre-primary onwards) are required to attend school on all days it is open for instruction, unless there is a valid reason for their absence.

Valid reasons include:

  • Temporary physical or mental illness or incapacity (Section 25)
  • Cultural or religious observance (Section 30)
  • Suspension (Section 90)
  • Other reasonable causes, approved by the school

The school day begins at 8:40 am and ends at 3:00 pm. Students are expected to be ready for learning by the start of the day and to attend every scheduled lesson. This includes attendance at all school events such as sports carnivals, excursions, and enrichment programs.

Students in Senior School who have flexible timetables, including Period 0 or Period 6 classes, are required to attend all scheduled sessions unless otherwise approved.
