A positive start can make a big difference to young people’s school engagement, learning and wellbeing. The change from a familiar primary school environment to a new high school is significant, and we recognise the necessity for added support and encouragement. Our intent is to provide every child the best start to their next learning journey and help them develop confidence and feel valued in their new surroundings.
Information & Workshops
Year 7 students are welcome to attend various events that help them familiarise themselves with the school and their new teachers and class members.
- “Moving to High School” Student Workshop – This workshop is designed for all Year 6 students at our feeder primary schools. During this workshop we facilitate interactive group activities, aimed at preparing students for the move to high school. Usually held in term 3 at the primary school.
- Orientation day for Year 6 students – students who have enrolled in the school by October are invited to attend an orientation day in November. Hosted by student services, year 7 teachers and Year 10 students, students will spend the day at Kent Street, experiencing a range of engaging, hands-on learning opportunities.
- Information nights
- Year 7 Parent Information Night – Parents, caregivers, students and families are invited to attend a Year 7 Information Evening about the school. This is designed to inform families of key information relating to the transition to Kent Street, allow presentations from our Approved Specialist Programs, and meet the Heads of Learning Areas.
- “Question and Answer Session for Future Kent Street Students” Student Workshop – This second feeder primary school visit is designed specifically for students attending Kent Street next year. Specific, practical information relating to our school and the up-coming Orientation Day will be discussed.
- Year 7 Induction – This is a program run in the early weeks of the year that sees students attending workshops and activities that build understanding of the school, encourage teamwork and discuss strategies around changes and challenges high school may bring.
- Students Services team work closely with our teachers to monitor the health and wellbeing of all students.
