Over 45 years of excellence in the air
Our flight training teacher/pilots are the most experienced in the WA Department of Education and create a coordinated progression in Aviation studies from Year 7 to Year 10 in preparation for senior school studies.
We offer ATAR Aviation in Year 11 and 12 with higher ATAR enrolment numbers than any other school as well as General Aviation, with specialised pathway counselling available. Many students achieve their first solo flight before they can even drive!
Our Aviation program was the first Specialist program introduced to Western Australian schools in 1979. As a pioneer in Aviation studies, our school also became the first in Australia to own and operate its own aircraft. Almost 50 years on, we own two Cessna aircraft, are home to a dedicated Aviation Education Centre, and boast a high rate of alumni entering the aviation industry at all levels including commercial flying and the Australian Defence Force.
Our program offers a highly technical curriculum with studies including Robotics (NXT), Drone flying, programming, engineering and mechanics.
Aviation Education Centre
First opened in 1994, the Aviation Education Centre provides a unique learning environment designed for and dedicated to aviation education. The centre features a dedicated workshop, lecture theatre and classroom with multiple PCs with MS Flight Simulator and ATC simulator software.
Excursions
Aviation students and staff regularly undertake excursions throughout Australia and abroad including visiting local organisation such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Police Air Wing HQ in Jandakot, and the RAAFA museum. Students have the opportunity to attend regular interstate tours to the Avalon Airshow and overseas excursions which have previously included Europe (Farnborough Airshow, UK) and North America (Oshkosh Airshow).

Future pathways
Many Kent Street Aviation Alumni are employed in roles across the industry in roles including Boeing 747 captains, RAAF wing commanders, aeronautical engineers, aviation maintenance engineers, air traffic controllers, drone operators, cabin crew and more. Kent Street’s alumni are held in high regard within the industry with some aviation organisations approaching us directly for apprenticeship candidates as well as providing aviation specific workplace learning opportunities. Past workplace employers include Corsaire, Royal Flying Doctor Service, RACWA, Heliwest and many more.
Entry Requirements
Our Aviation program is very competitive with places limited for each year, to apply students must:
Have a genuine interest in aviation.
Demonstrate a satisfactory academic performance. School reports, references and personal qualities of the applicant will be considered in determining acceptance into the program.
Complete and submit an Expression of Interest form at least 1 week prior to testing.
Enclose a copy of the last 2 school reports with the Expression of Interest form.
Attend and successfully complete aptitude testing.

Yes, at Kent Street we have the Aviation Support Group (ASG) – a sub-committee of the P&C they work to fundraise specifically for the aviation program and are often invited to special guest talks by our Aviation teachers.
