Approved Specialist Program - Aviation 2020 testing is on Monday 26 August 2019 at 8.30am at Kent Street Aviation Centre. All Expressions of Interest and your child's two most recent reports are due by Monday 19 August 2019.
Term 3 signals the start of Semester 2, and a chance for students to assess their progress so far. Having the pleasure of reading and writing a comment on the year 7 and 12 student reports, I am pleased with how students are progressing in 2019. As part of the Positive Behaviour Schools (PBS), initiative home room teachers will work with students to set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely) goals for this term. It is important that students set targets, work hard to achieve them and then reassess their progress, in order to improve and grow as individuals.
The term provides students with numerous opportunity to dress up for a good cause. In week 5 building, on the success of Book Week last year, where staff dressed up and each Learning Area followed a theme, this will be expanded to allow students to wear costumes for the first time. The theme this year is ‘Heroic Book Characters’ and all proceeds go to the Super Tee project, supporting student with diseases in hospital. We also have our Athletics Carnival this term, that involves the whole school and allows students to dress up with participation the main theme.
Numerous students will be involved in camps this term involving Cricket, Fashion and Design, Physics, Outdoor Education and the Pedal Prix Challenge. It is wonderful that our staff are willing to give up their free time to allow students to participate in these camps that become a highlight of their time at school.
OLNA testing will continue in September, and it is important to acknowledge that this term will be the last one for formal school assessments for our year 12 students, before they prepare for exams in the holidays. The Presentation Ceremony will then occur early in term 4, prior to the start of ATAR exams.
Being a PBS school, staff will continue to focus on our values, consisting of the 3R’s, Respect for Learning, Resilience to Achieve and Responsibility to School and Community. These values are actively taught in classes and students who follow these behaviours are rewarded with house points, that can lead to individual prizes and contribute to the House points championship.
Have a wonderful term and please feel confident to contact staff at school if you have any concerns with your child’s progress.
